Maria Jimenez is one of the best painters in Oaxaca. Her work has won numerous awards and is on display all around the world. She is a timid and shy woman who is the powerful leader of a San Martin Tilcajete artesano family. Her brothers Aaron, Candido, and Miguel are also carvers, but it is Maria's painting that distinguishes their work. Her detail work is outstanding. You'll need a magnifying lens to read her signature.
